I believe that martial arts is more than just learning self-defense moves. It is a way to improve the quality of life, both physically and mentally. What I like is that it helps me to stay fit, functional and energetic. I have been involved in Choi Kwang-Do since its introduction in Townsville in 1993, and am qualified as an Examiner by CKD International, as well as holding a CKD International Chief Instructor Diploma.
Donna Worthington
My position as a special education teacher in the Queensland schooling system provides me with valuable skills to share with our instructor team. Teaching martial arts gives me the opportunity to empower women, and to help them to stay fit, confident and safe. I believe that martial arts should be an activity that anyone and everyone can do. I am certified as a School Owner, Chief Instructor and Examiner in CKD and have been involved with CKD since 2004.

To me, Choi Kwang Do is a way of life. It gives me focus and directon regardless of whatever else is going on in my life. I am also trained as a youth development mentor and have worked in local schools delivering empowerment programs. The self defence side of our art is great for keeping people safe, but the real value lies in the personal development and self improvement. Learning CKD has made me a better person and is something that I would like to share with you too. CKD is truly “the martial art for life”
Dr. Geoffrey Gordon
I started in CKD with my daughter because it was a safe and fun activity for her, and it was an ideal father-daughter activity that we could do together. I have many years of life experience, have trained in other martial arts styles, and have an extensive medical and defense force background. I believe that CKD is the perfect way that we can improve our quality of life, and bring a little more self-discipline, focus and self-confidence into our lives.

My specialty is teaching the Family Martial Arts timeslot and my aim is to make learning martial arts fun and engaging for all ages. I started training in CKD as an activity with my family and after helping my two teenagers to achieve their Black Belts, became inspired to help others on their martial arts journey as well. I have made CKD my number one fitness activity because it is a whole body workout that targets strength, cardio, flexibilty and the mind.

When I first joined Choi, my dad encouraged me to give it a try and I never expected to love it so much. The principles, amazing people, and engaging lessons won me over quickly. Working with little kids and tiny tigers is a joy, helping me develop patience and leadership skills. The exercise drills benefit both my physical and mental well-being. Overall, I love Choi! It’s not just a martial art; it’s a way of life I’m grateful to be part of, making classes enjoyable for our students.

I joined Choi Kwang Do for fitness, fun, and stress relief, and it’s been life-changing! I’ve grown stronger, more resilient, and more confident. What I love most about being an instructor is guiding our younger students. Watching them master new techniques and seeing their joy is incredibly rewarding for me. I’m excited to be part of their martial arts journey!

I like the challenges that Choi Kwang Do Martial Arts provides, such as learning and mastering patterns and movements. This in turn promotes self-discipline, self-confidence and other life values which anyone can use in their own lifestyle to promote personal growth and overcome challenges in their own life journey. I’m an ex veteran with nearly 18 years service. I enjoy endurance sports, strength training and personal development.

In the time that I have spent at the Academy of CKD I’ve grown stronger, healthier, and far more confident. I went from never speaking up in class to becoming an Assistant Instructor who says ‘yes’ to every challenge. That confidence now carries into my work and life, and I’m grateful to Choi, which is why I love giving back to every student I teach.
Johannes Boyke
I have always believed that healthy movement is the foundation of a healthy body. Through my work at NQ Spine Health, I help people improve the way they move and feel. Choi Kwang Do shares those same biomechanical principles, making it a practical and enjoyable way to build strength, mobility, confidence, and long-term wellbeing.
Jaiden Toombes
I started martial arts to get stronger, learn self-defence, and challenge myself. Choi Kwang Do has helped me build confidence, stay active, and continually improve my skills. As an Assistant Instructor, I enjoy helping students learn, grow, and achieve their goals. One of my proudest achievements has been earning my belt ranks, becoming an Assistant Instructor, and helping other students improve on their martial arts journey. Outside of training, I enjoy working out, playing Xbox, travelling, spending time with family and friends, and anything to do with cars.
Aran Shantharajah
I’ve discovered that Choi Kwang Do has helped me become much more confident, especially when speaking in front of a group. I love helping our students, particularly our junior members, and it’s rewarding to watch them grow in confidence and skills. When I’m not at the Academy or studying, you’ll usually find me hanging out with my mates kicking a soccer ball around.
