We view our role as martial arts instructors to be a partner with parents in shaping the future of their children. By instilling good habits, attitudes, and a growth mindset early on, we aim to equip kids with the tools they need for a successful life. Here are some ways you can reinforce a growth mindset at home:
1. Model a Growth Mindset: Children learn by example. Show them how you tackle challenges and learn from setbacks in your own life.
2. Praise the Process: Focus on the effort and learning process rather than the outcome. Celebrate the hard work and perseverance it takes to learn something new.
3. Encourage Curiosity: Foster an environment where asking questions and exploring interests are encouraged. This nurtures a love for learning.
4. Set Realistic Challenges: Help your child set achievable goals that stretch their capabilities and reward their progress, emphasizing that growth happens outside of comfort zones.
5. Teach Resilience: Share stories of people who have overcome difficulties through persistence and learning. This can be from books, history, or even personal family stories.
At The Academy, we’re committed to being more than just a martial arts school; we’re a community focused on building strong, resilient, and successful individuals. Let’s talk about something close to my heart: the power of routine, especially in martial arts. To me, teaching martial arts to is not just about the kicks and punches; it’s about setting a foundation for success in life, something I’ve witnessed time and again in our dojang.
The simple act of having the routine coming to class regularly will aid in developing three things that are essential for success in other areas of life:
The bottom line is that embracing routine simplifies our daily choices, reducing stress and enhancing focus. This is something I’ve applied in my own life, inspired by mentors and role models who have streamlined their routines to improve productivity and achieve their visions.
For parents, integrating regular attendance to martial arts classes into our children’s weekly schedule teaches them more than just self-defense. It’s a lesson in creating a positive routine and gives you the opportunity to help your kids develop the habits they need for success.
I’ve seen firsthand how a steady routine in martial arts can lay the groundwork for success. It’s not just about physical fitness; it’s about shaping a disciplined, focused, and persevering character.
It is little wonder that many of our students who achieve their Black Belt give this simple piece of advice to beginners ….”Just keep walking through the dojang doors and you will get there!”
Don’t forget to wish your classmates a Happy Birthday!
These students reached their Red Belt level at the last belt exam. Congratulations!! Not far to go now until Black Belt!!!!

Simon Sinek’s insight here should resonate with anyone in a leadership role, whether it be at work, home as a parent or at school; he’s pointing out that the essence of real leadership lies in being confidently humble. This blend, rather than a facade of toughness, truly reflects a leader’s inner strength. It’s about leading with genuine self-assurance and a grounded sense of self, which naturally commands respect and shows true toughness.
