Parents, download this poster to help remind your teens how to act responsibly. Download here: https://bit.ly/4fA5sUw
This diagram was on our fridge for years, guiding our teens (and occasionally reminding me too!). When chores weren’t done, or blame was passed around, we’d ask, “Are you above the line or below?”
It’s easy to slip into a victim mentality, blaming or making excuses, which disempowers us with thoughts like, “I can’t…” or “If only…” But this mindset only holds us back. Living “below the line” means giving up control to others or circumstances.
Instead, we can choose to live “above the line,” taking ownership, accountability, and control of our actions. This shift leads to personal growth, empowerment, and a “Victor Mentality.”
As Jim Rohn says, “…you cannot change the circumstances, the seasons or the wind, but you can change yourself.”
We’ll be discussing this in class to help our students be the best they can be.

As much as you want to be there to protect your child, you cannot be with them every minute of the day to protect them from bullies and personal attack. Also, they must learn to stand on their own two feet.
This why self-defence skills are an important part of your child’s education, and an easy way to teach them self-defence is to help them to understand that AWARENESS is important
Awareness is all about taking in the big picture.
If your child is attacked, a good mindset to be in is to be aware of everything else and not just the danger present in front of them.
Things that your child should be aware of:
Exits or an escape route to safety
Any other people – other bullies that may join in
Dangerous conditions that may hamper their escape or self defence e.g a wet toilet floor, obstacles
Where help is e.g where the teachers or their friends are
A place of safety that they can escape to
Of course, this is easier said than done especially if they are about to get beaten up.
But you can help your child develop their awareness by discussing incidents that happen to them or their friends.
In our self-defence lessons we set up scenarios and help students to analyse them. E.g a bully drags you into the toilets where there are 2 more waiting. “where is your escape route?” “What if the bullies are blocking the doorway?” “it happens at lunchtime …where could the teachers be?”
Discussing scenarios like this, or analysing real occurrences are a good way to help prepare your child.
We believe that every child needs a good start to life, and that they should not have to deal with bullying.

Challenges can be intimidating—whether it’s learning a new technique, performing in front of others, or pushing through a tough training session. Facing those fears helps you discover your true potential. Each time you tackle something that scares you, you build strength, develop courage, and gain the confidence to take on even greater challenges. Progress begins with the willingness to try, even when it feels uncomfortable.
