Greetings, everyone! It’s Master John here, and today we’re delving into the concept of the “comfort zone.”

Those two words might sound cozy, but don’t let them fool you. Your comfort zone might be the coziest place, but it’s also the worst place to be for personal growth.

We humans are naturally drawn to comfort, safety, and security. It’s in our DNA to seek refuge in what we know. However, it’s important to recognize that this place of comfort can be the worst place to linger for too long. Why? Because it’s the realm where personal growth often stagnates.

To truly evolve and become the best versions of ourselves, we need to step out of this comfortable space.
We must be willing to embrace discomfort, tackle difficult challenges, and stretch our limits.

That’s where the real growth happens, where we evolve into something more than what we currently are.

Always remember this golden rule: “Nothing great was ever achieved in the comfort zone”

Achieving greatness demands that we venture into uncharted territories, step away from our daily routines, and embrace change.

Always be in the habit of looking for ways to break free from your comfort zone and take actionable steps toward success, get ready to embrace the unfamiliar, challenge your boundaries, and unlock your full potential.

Getting Ready for Your First Belt Exam: A Beginner’s Guide

Greetings, aspiring martial artists! Starting on your martial arts journey is an exciting adventure, and your first belt exam is a significant milestone along the way. To help you prepare for this crucial step, we’ve put together a collection of tips for beginners preparing for this big day.

  • Always attend class regularly – at least twice per week so you know your curriculum
  • Practice your curriculum at home.
  • If you need a hand or extra practice at something, please ask your instructor.
  • Make sure you attend class during stripe testing week. Once you earn 4 black stripes on your belt, you can register for a place in the exam
  • Always register for the exam at least a week before the exam date. Exam dates are listed in our class notices, in the student app, and on our reception TV screen
  • Always register for your place. If you simply turn up on the day without letting us know then you may not be allowed to test.
  • Registration is done online, we will send out notices to mum or dad to help you register
  • Always turn up early to the exam on the big day
  • Attend the exam in your full uniform, get a good nights rest beforehand, and have a proper breakfast.
  • Invite somebody along to the exam to experience your challenge and cheer you on.
  • Make sure mum and dad takes photos of you on the day

Recipe of the month: Turkish one-pan eggs & peppers (Menemen)

Menemen, made from eggs, tomatoes, peppers and sometimes onions, is a distinctly Turkish breakfast comfort food. Although a year-round dish, it is especially pleasing in the summer, with really ripe tomatoes from the garden or farmer’s market.
